10 Prayers for your marriage
1. Joshua 1:9 ESV
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Lord, give us strength and courage to walk the hard paths in our marriage. Help us to rely on You because You are with us wherever we go. Thank you for this promise, God. In Jesus Name, Amen.
2. Psalm 37:3 ESV
“Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.”
Heavenly Father, help us to trust you in everything. Especially during the times when it feels like trust is in short supply. Remind me of your faithfulness and help me to be faithful to you and in my marriage. In Jesus Name, Amen.
3. Ephesians 6:11-12 ESV
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
Lord, give me eyes to recognize who the real enemy is. Remind me that I am not fighting against my husband but against spiritual forces who would love nothing more than to tear my marriage apart. Strengthen my relationship with my husband and give us the resolve to stand firm against the real enemy. In Jesus Name, Amen.
4. James 4:8 ESV
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
Father God, give my husband and I a desire to draw near to you. Help us not to rely on each other for our ultimate source of whatever we need. Help us to draw from you first and then we can lean on each other. In Jesus Name, Amen.
5. Ephesians 4:29 ESV
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”
Lord, forgive us when we tear each other down with our words. Help us to be careful to choose our words wisely so that they edify and encourage our spouse. Help us to be grace-givers with our words instead of life-takers. In Jesus Name, Amen.
6. Ephesians 4:2-3 ESV
“With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
God, give us a humble spirit flowing with gentleness and patience towards our spouse. Help us to live just as your word says. Teach us how to bear one another in love and guide us to live peaceably with each other. In Jesus Name, Amen.
7. Colossians 1:9-10 ESV
” And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.”
Lord, give us a never-ending desire to never stop praying for our husband. Help us to stand in the gap for him. Help him to grow in spiritual wisdom and understanding as he leads his family. Help us to be a help to him and not a hindrance. In Jesus Name, Amen.
8. Luke 10:40 ESV
“But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”
Heavenly Father, guard us against the enemy’s weapon of busyness. It’s easy to get busy with all of life’s demands and forget our husband’s needs. Forgive us for all the times we have failed to spend time nurturing our relationship because we were too busy to do so. Draw us closer to each other and ultimately to you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
9. Galatians 5:22 ESV
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.”
God, help us to develop the fruit of the spirit in our lives instead of the fruit of the flesh. Help us to lean in more towards you rather than going our own way. Help us to ooze love, joy, and peace in everyday life with our husbands. Make us an overflowing spring of patience, kindness, goodness, and faithfulness towards our husbands so they can know you more and see your work in our lives. In Jesus Name, Amen.
10. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ESV
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us the example in your word for what love really is and what it should look like when it is lived out in our everyday lives. Not only that, but thank you for giving us your son, Jesus, as a living, breathing example of true love. Help us to live out this love towards our husbands exactly how you have mentioned in your word. This is the standard that we hold ourselves to. We won’t be perfect at it, but we pray that each day, you will mold us and make us into clay that the Potter can make into something beautiful. Help us to live these truths out daily in our marriage. In Jesus Name, Amen.
