Amazing Love

Hey friend!
Happy resurrection weekend!
My mind drifts to the events that were taking place some 2,000 years ago. Here we are at the end of Holy week. Last Sunday we celebrated Palm Sunday. The day when Jesus entered town riding on a donkey and the crowd was shouting Hosanna! Jesus and His disciples ate the last supper together and then Jesus goes to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. He then would be arrested, put on trial, mocked, and beaten beyond recognition. From there He would make His way to an old rugged cross.
As He hung on that old rugged cross; a crown of thorns piercing His flesh and spikes driven in His hands and feet, He took on the sin of all of humanity. He felt the agony and the pain of being separated from His Father as He carried the weight of the world on His shoulders. Many don’t understand what happened on this day in history all those years ago. If I’m honest, sometimes it’s hard for me to understand. Why would He do something like that?
Love. It’s because of His amazing love. God loved you and me so much that He paid the ultimate sacrifice to redeem a broken people back to a Holy God.
See, sin broke our relationship in the Garden of Eden and it wouldn’t be made complete until Jesus came and paid the price for our redemption. The end of Holy week was dark. Jesus cried out with a loud voice and yielded up His spirit and died. He would be taken off a cross and buried in a borrowed tomb. All hope seemed lost. Oh, but that is only part of the story. It was only Friday – Sunday was coming!
If Jesus would have stayed in the tomb – all hope would be lost! But praise God – He rose from the dead. Jesus conquered death, hell, and the grave. For you and for me. Not because we deserved it – far from it – but because He loved us that much. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross made salvation possible for all who believe in Him. And that salvation purchased peace for us.
Peace with God and the Peace of God.
Alone in our sin, we couldn’t stand before a Holy God. Our sin placed a chasm between God’s holiness and our unholiness. Priscilla Shirer says it best when she says, “Peace with God is only possible because of His unfathomable love for us.” His amazing love for you and me bridged the gap. Lois Evans, the late wife of Dr. Tony Evans is quoted to say, “The only one who can truly satisfy the human heart is the One who made it.” Such a true statement.
God created us and loved us enough to make a way for us to have peace with God. Then because of His great love and relationship with Him, He gives us the peace of God when we step into the shoes of peace from God’s armor.
Sweet friend, I pray that you hear, see, and feel His amazing love for you. His amazing love that was poured out on an old rugged cross. He loves you more than mere words can describe. Oh, what amazing love.
Heavenly Father,
I sit here in total awe and wonder at your amazing love. I can’t wrap my head around why you love me so. Oh, but Lord – I’m so thankful that you do. Thank you for your sacrifice on Calvary. Thank you for redeeming me back to you. I don’t deserve your love and I will thank you for all eternity for saving my soul. I love you. In Jesus name. Amen.
