Leaving a Legacy of Prayer
“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16
Hey mama!
We have been discussing how wearing the armor of God is necessary to having victory in the daily grind of our life. For most of my Christian life, I have misunderstood how prayer plays a vital role in wearing and activating the armor of God.
I read a quote recently by Tony Evans that really spoke to my heart. It said, “If you want to know the temperature of your spiritual life, look at the thermostat setting on your prayer life.”
My prayer life has definitely had its hot and cold moments so it was no shock that the quote mentioned above really pulled at my heart strings. Imagine the temperature of my walk with God, or my children’s walk with God, if I would have taken prayer more seriously during the seasons that it was more of an afterthought in my life. Imagine the kind of impact I would have had on my sphere of influence! If we stop and think about it, prayer is one of the most important things that we can do in our day. Prayer plugs us into the source and allows us to have an audience with the God of the universe.
The best thing that we can do for ourselves and our children is develop a prayer life that stops the enemy in his tracks. When our kids see prayer as a priority in our lives, then it opens the door for us to teach them how to develop a prayer life in their own life that will sustain them through the trials and tribulations they will face in life. Hebrews 4:16 tells us, “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Sweet friend, our gracious Father gives us more than we could ask or think, but we must be willing to take the time to approach him.
It’s been said that the average Christian spends an estimated three to five minutes a day in prayer. I’ll be honest, I was humbled when I read those statistics on prayer because I spend much more than three to five minutes watching my favorite show on TV. What would honestly happen in my life and in the lives of those around me if I spent more time in prayer than what I spend watching my favorite shows? I honestly believe it would blow my socks off.
So, how do we pivot and shift to becoming a woman that leaves a legacy of prayer? The hard truth of the matter is we become more intentional. We focus more on the eternal and less on the temporary. I’m learning that I will fail over and over when I try to do this within my own strength. I’m learning that the more I surrender to the Holy Spirit’s prompting then the more I hunger for the eternal more than the temporary. Friend, it honestly comes down to a simple question, “Are we going to surrender to Him or are we going to continue to push our own wagon so to speak.”
Let’s commit to becoming women that leaves a legacy of prayer. I can promise you that it will be one of the best decisions we could ever make!
God,
Thank you for the privilege of prayer. Thank you that because of Jesus and what He accomplished on the cross, I have the honor of having an audience with you. Forgive me of glossing over that fact. Prayer is our ability to touch Heaven – to invite you into our daily rhythms – into the ebb and flow of our here and now. Open my eyes to see the importance of prayer – help me to be more intentional with my time. In Jesus Name, Amen.
