Setting our Minds for Victory

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2 CSB

Hey Mama,

Do you ever just have a heavy heart over your children? My heart is heavy, and I just feel the need to pray.

There are so many temptations trying to grab the attention of our children and pull them down the wrong path. The enemy is relentless and will stop at nothing to kill, steal, and destroy.

Mama, it is up to us to lift our kiddos up in prayer and to also help give them the necessary tools to live victorious.

Our key verse in Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2 CSB.

The more we help our children to get into God’s word – the more we set them up for success. When we fill our minds with God’s truth, we have less room for the things of the world that are just temporary.  Everything here on this earth is just temporary so it is very important that we help our kids see things from an eternal perspective.

In Matthew 16:23, Jesus rebuked Peter. Peter thought he was doing something good. However, his mind was being shaped by the devil and he didn’t even know it. Having spiritual discernment is critical. We need to be able to discern the sources that are influencing our thinking. And we need to help our children see the sources that are influencing their thinking as well.

The enemy knows that if he can get into our thinking that it will shape our actions. We don’t need to allow him a foothold at all – not even a crack in the door.

Heavenly Father,

My heart is heavy. I know that the enemy will stop at nothing to destroy my children. Help me Lord to be able to discern their spiritual needs and the things that they may be struggling with. Show me ways that I can help teach them to set their minds on heavenly things instead of earthly things. Give my kids a heart to know you more. Give them a hunger for you. Help them to see that you love them and you want what is best for them. Help me to be the example my kids need to see to hunger and thirst more after you. You are all we need. I love you! In Jesus Name, Amen.

Dig Deeper:

“So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, being rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with gratitude.”

Colossians 2:6-7 CSB

“I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16 CSB

Reflection:

How can you develop a prayer strategy for your kids going forward? – lift in prayer whatever needs they might be struggling with. Spend some extra time with them this week in God’s word.
