Are You a Revealer or a Protector?
A gossip goes around revealing a secret, but a trustworthy person keeps a confidence.
Proverbs 11:13 CSB
Hey friend,
Whoever came up with the old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” obviously didn’t understand the power of words. Words matter. They can bring healing or cause hurt. Words have the power to protect our reputations or destroy them. Therefore, it is critical that we pay attention to the words that come out of our mouths.
When it comes to our relationships with others, it’s important to know the answer to the following question: Am I a Revealer or a protector?
A gossip goes around revealing a secret, but a trustworthy person keeps a confidence.
Proverbs 11:13 CSB
You see, a gossip is a revealer of secrets, but a trustworthy person is a protector of privacy. The Bible calls one that gossips a person with a big mouth (Proverbs 20:19) and warns people to stay away from gossips. A person that goes around telling other people’s business is one that can’t be trusted.
Gossip is a dead-end street and a certain way to ruin relationships. It saddens the heart of God and is one of the deadliest tools that the enemy uses against each other. Gossip never heals – it only hurts. Let’s commit to being a protector over being a revealer. It’s one of the best ways we can honor God.
Dear God,
Forgive me when I have allowed my words to tear someone down rather than build them up. Help me to be more aware of the words that come out of my mouth. Put your hand over my mouth when I am tempted to gossip about someone or their circumstances. I want to honor you with my words. In Jesus name, Amen.
