In the Stillness
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 ESV
Hey friend,
Happy Thanksgiving week! We have so much to be thankful for! Don’t you agree? Even in the midst of everything going on in our nation and around the word, we still are so very blessed by a great and loving God. I can think of so many blessings that God has blessed me with but one blessing that tops them all is my relationship with Jesus. I’m so thankful that God sent His Son, not only for my eternal salvation but also so I can have a relationship with Him. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have Jesus in my life.
As we kick off our week of thankfulness, what better place to start discussing our blessings than with HIM – Our awesome God. Nothing else would even exist if it wasn’t for Him. I’ve been reflecting on my relationship with God and how I take Him for granted most of the time. I truly don’t deserve His patience, goodness, kindness, mercy, grace, and love yet He extends them to me every hour of every day. He is my rock and my strong tower – the One I run to pick me up and help me stand.
As I reflect on my own relationship with God, I’m reminded of our key verse, “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10. I love the CSB translation of this verse. It says, “Stop fighting, and know that I am God.”
The psalmist wanted to encourage God’s people by reminding them that God would fight their battles and protect them against the enemy. They need not worry or strive when faced with challenges or difficulties. The same is true for us. Yet, day after day, we strive and worry about everything going on around us and within us. We lose sight of God’s presence in our situation and fail to listen to what He is trying to say.
Sweet friend, when is the last time you just sat still with God to really listen to Him speak?
If you are like me, it’s been a hot minute. It’s difficult to take some time away from our busy schedules to just sit still. With so many demands pulling us in different directions, our good intentions end up being shameful regrets.
However, I’m learning just how important it is to make time for soul care. I’m a much better mama, wife, friend, etc. when I do make time to take care of myself.
But one thing God is teaching me is that my “soul care” isn’t complete unless I make spending time with Him an utmost priority and that it truly matters how we spend our time together. I spend a lot of my time with God telling Him things, praying about things, but not enough time just listening to Him speak.
One of my favorite verses is Jeremiah 33:3, “”Call to me and I will answer you, and tell you great and incomprehensible things you do not know.”
Friend, God wants to show us great and mighty things but we must take the time to listen.
As we approach Thanksgiving day, let’s take a time out from the hustle and bustle of the holiday to just sit with our great God and thank Him for who He is and then just take the time to listen to Him speak.
He wants to whisper His relentless love to our hearts and blanket us with His peace, and show us great and mighty things that we can’t even begin to fathom. So sweet friend, take the time to be still. He’s waiting for you.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for whispering to my heart to just be still. You know that I need you more than I need air to breathe. I’m amazed at your great love for me – I’m thankful for your love, mercy, and grace. Such amazing grace, Lord that I don’t deserve. Lord – thank you for being a God that I can run to and lean on – help me to run to you first each and every day and to never take you for granted. Thank you for sending Jesus to save my soul and for helping me every day. In Jesus Name, Amen.
