Is It Well?
From the Armor Series
“Having your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace.” Ephesians 6:15 MEV
Hey friend!
In the Armor series, we have been discussing the different parts of our spiritual armor. I most certainly need a deeper understanding of each piece of armor in my life. Can you relate? There are days when it feels like I take two steps forward to only take five steps back.
What is one thing you could use more of? I know, loaded question, right? I can think of a million things I could use more of. Out of everything I could list – and believe me, the list could go on for miles and miles, I would have to say peace tops the list every time. It doesn’t take but just a few seconds for my soul to feel uneasy, especially with everything going on in our world today. Whether it’s a news update or a scroll through social media, there is unrest around every corner.
Ephesians 6:15 says, “Having your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace.” Growing up, I never quite understood how peace had anything to do with my feet. My feet sure didn’t feel uneasy or anxious like my soul did. So why did Paul write this passage telling us to have our feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace?
In order to answer that question, we need to understand how the shoes come into the equation. Remember Paul had a Birdseye view from prison. He was surrounded by soldiers decked out in full military uniforms. Part of a Roman soldier’s uniform was his shoes which were called caliga. It was a half boot and half sandal. The soles were made of several layers of leather with hobnails protruding out. These hobnails were hollow metal studs that would dig into the ground, keeping the soldier sure-footed and stable.
The gospel of peace is simply God’s peace. God’s peace allows us to keep our footing when the storms of life are threatening to take us under. It gives us stability in a world that is anything but stable. In essence, it is our Biblical cleats. It is our guard and our protector.
Of all the many things that the enemy is after, you can bet your bottom dollar that your peace is at the top of his list. He wants us uneasy, nervous, anxious, on edge, unbalanced, filled with worry, and knotted up in turmoil. He wants us to lack any form of peace. He wants this because he knows that when he steals our peace, he steals our victory.
Friend, it’s not by accident – don’t be fooled into thinking this is just how life is these days. Nope. We are under attack by a very clever enemy. We will dig into the shoes of peace later in the week but for now, I want to leave you with this question:
Sweet friend – Is it really well with your soul?
If you find yourself struggling with the answer to that question, know that you are not alone. Your heavenly Father is standing there with arms wide open – run to Him. Rest in His peace. I promise you - It’s there.
Dear God,
Thank you for your shoes of peace that anchors me in life’s storms. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have you. Open my eyes to see where the enemy is stealing my peace and my victory. Help me to arm myself each day with your armor and boldly walk in victory. I love you, In Jesus Name, Amen.
