The Hunger that Satisfies from The Burning Bush Series
“O God, You are my God: early will I seek you: my soul thirsts for you, my flesh faints for you, in a dry and thirsty land with no water.” Psalm 63:1
Hey friend!
I’m so glad you are here. We have been going through our Burning Bush series and talking about what it looks like and means to have an ignited walk with God over the last few weeks. Do you ever find yourself just in awe of how amazing God truly is? I do all the time. I am in awe of how God sends these moments to us to teach us more about Him and His love for us. This is what He did for me the morning He got my attention through a burning bush. If you missed the main story, you can find it here.
Friend, rest assured- God always has our best in mind and longs to have this amazing relationship with us.
So, just to recap the last couple of weeks – we have discussed how God wants us to be available as well as to be available with the correct heart posture. We also discussed how details and blueprints are not included. God wants us to step out in obedience and faith when He asks us to do something and not to rely on our own understanding. Next, we talked about how our environment is key and how the enemy can deceive us into thinking that we are already in the right environment because we attend church and are active in church activities.
Last week, we touched a little bit on how we need to cultivate the right environment on a daily basis with God which leads us into our next lesson.
Lesson #5
Develop a love for God’s word
It is impossible to have an ignited walk without being in God’s word and allowing God’s word to get deep into us. Developing a love for God’s word doesn’t happen overnight but the more we allow his word to penetrate our thoughts, habits, and daily rhythms; the more we will see a shift in what we hunger for. John 6:35 promises pure satisfaction as Jesus says, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”
As I studied the fire in front of me, I noticed something. The more the fire was “fed”, the more intense the fire blazed and the hotter the flame got. The same is true for our daily walk with God. The more we “feed” our soul with God’s word, the more ignited we become and the hungrier and thirstier we become for the things of God. King David knew this truth so well. We find it continuously through the book of Psalms but one of my favorite verses is our key verse. Psalm 63:1 “O God, You are my God: early will I seek you: my soul thirsts for you, my flesh faints for you, in a dry and thirsty land with no water.”
Wow friend – this is what I want! Our heavenly father truly is the only one that can satisfy our hunger and thirst.
However, in the craziness of our busy days, how do we get to the point where we are thirsty for God?
The first step begins with a prayer, “Lord, give me such a hunger for you and your word. Ignite a flame in me and keep me hungry for you. Never let me go back to settling for less.”
Remember -this won’t happen overnight. Sweet friend, it takes time, but it is totally worth the effort.
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for these lessons that you are teaching us. You truly know what is best for us. Lord, give me such a hunger for you and for your word. Ignite a flame in me and keep me hungry for you. You are the only one that can truly satisfy me. Draw me close to you Lord and don’t let me stray from you. Never let me go back to settling for less. In Jesus Name, Amen.
