The Whisper My Heart Needed From The Burning Bush Series
“The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable – who can understand it? I, the Lord, examine the mind, I test the heart to give each according to his way to what his actions deserve.” Jeremiah 17:9-10 CSB
Hey friend,
Last week we started our Burning Bush series on the lessons God taught me about what it means and looks like to Walk Ignited. If you missed the post from last week, just click the link here to read it.
Last week, we talked about how important it is to be available. God will have either teaching moments for us or mission moments for someone else, but we miss out on the blessing of both when we aren’t available. I was at a women’s conference earlier in the year and one of the speakers was speaking on this very topic. One of her prayers each morning is asking God to open her eyes so that she might see opportunities where she can either witness to someone or be the hands and feet of Jesus. Oh friend, how I need to pray that prayer more. How many opportunities do you think we miss because we aren’t available to what God has in store for us that day?
And that leads us to the next lesson.
Lesson #2
2. Be available with the correct postured heart attitude- Even though I had broken away from my “To-do list” and schedule, my heart wasn’t in the right place. My mind was filled with a plethora of anxious thoughts on how this “pit-stop” was de-railing my already slammed packed day. Reeling my thoughts back in to try to pay attention, my mom said, “God spoke to me this morning and told me to text you. He said you need to see what an ignited walk looks like.” Just like that, tears streamed down my face as I heard God whisper to my heart. It is hard for us to receive these precious kingdom moments without the right postured heart. Even though I was present and accounted for, I almost missed what God had meant for me to learn all together. To have an ignited walk with God that impacts those around us, we must be not only available for God’s kingdom moments, but also be available with the correct postured heart attitude.
Jeremiah 17:9-10 says, “The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable – who can understand it? I, the Lord, examine the mind, I test the heart to give each according to his way to what his actions deserve.” Friend, our hearts will lead us down the wrong path. The Bible says the heart is deceitful. Another way to say it is the heart is misleading. It will not always lead us to the right choice.
We must not rely on our heart. We must keep our eyes locked on Jesus and His word. Hebrews 4:12 states, “For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” The more we dig into God’s word the more we are transformed and renewed.
Sweet friend, I will be honest. I don’t always have the right heart posture, but I sincerely want to. I want God to invade my thoughts and my actions so that there is more of Him and less of me. Only then will my availability be met with the right heart attitude. A heart attitude that pleases God. Stay tuned next week for the next burning bush lesson.
Lord,
Thank you for showing me how wrong my attitude was. Thank you for loving me enough to teach me that the thoughts of my heart weren’t very pleasing to you. It really doesn’t matter if I am available to you when my heart isn’t in the right place. Forgive me of all the times when my heart hasn’t been pleasing to you. Help me to flesh out these truths that you are teaching me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
