Bound Together

“He is before all things, and by him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:17 CSB

Hey friend,

On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate the strength of your marriage? Are there seasons where you feel like your marriage is stronger or weaker than other seasons?

I have had stronger seasons in my marriage where we seemed to be in sync with each other. But I’ve also had my share of weaker seasons in my marriage. There have been several times when we felt like quitting and throwing in the towel and we have had many moments where we didn’t see eye to eye.

But the reality is we honestly wouldn’t have survived each season of our marriage if we didn’t have God.

Colossians 1:17 says, “He is before all things, and by him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:17 CSB

It’s imperative that we put Jesus at the center of our marriages and let Him be the One that holds it together. Marriage is hard. If we try to live our life without God at the center, it only makes it harder and can lead to disaster.

Let’s resolve to have marriages bound together by Jesus alone. Let’s resolve to be the kind of wife that seeks His will for our marriage. Let’s start with a prayer.

Dear God,

Thank you for the gift of my marriage. I give my marriage to you. I give you all the highs and all the lows. Every heartache, trial, and joy I lay at your feet. I recognize that without you holding me and my husband together – we would not be able to make it last within ourselves.  Please continue to be the glue that holds us together and keeps us together. Help us both to honor you and honor each other. Teach us how to love the way you love. I love you! In Jesus Name. Amen.

“Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Colossians 3:12 CSB

Reflection:

What is at the center of your marriage holding it together? Spend some time in prayer over each area of your marriage – praising God for the strengths and asking for His help in the weaknesses.
