Living a Life Based on Your Inheritance
From the Armor Series
“In Him, we have also received an inheritance, because we were predestined according to the plan of the one who works out everything in agreement with the purpose of His will so that we who had already put our hope in Christ might bring praise to His glory.” Ephesians 1:11-12 CSB
Hey friend!
I’m so glad you are here!
Have you ever thought about what would change in your life if you found out that you received a substantial financial inheritance? Who would be the first person you would call? What would be the first thing you would do? What would be the first thing you would purchase?
I thought about this question the other day when I read the headlines in the news of the purchase of Twitter for $44 Billion dollars. I can’t even possibly begin to wrap my head around what a million or a billion dollars would look like in my bank account, much less $44 Billion.
We may not have the kind of money lying around in our bank account to make the kind of purchase in the billions; but friend, we have something even better as a believer in Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 1:11-12 says, “In Him, we have also received an inheritance because we were predestined according to the plan of the one who works out everything in agreement with the purpose of His will so that we who had already put our hope in Christ might bring praise to His glory.”
Sweet friend, as believers, we are an heir of God. He has lavishly bestowed upon us an inheritance that is beyond our wildest imagination that we don’t deserve and didn’t and can’t earn. The apostle Paul spent the majority of the first part of Ephesians speaking about the massive benefits of what our salvation brings through Jesus Christ. Paul spent so much time writing about it because he wanted to make sure that we don’t forget it. Specifically, because our inheritance was for the here and now and not just for eternity.
Forgetting the inheritance that God has graciously given to all who place faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior is dangerous. The moment we forget what we have been given is the moment that we start living as if we have never been given a lavish inheritance at all. It’s like someone giving us an unlimited supply of money in the form of a check made payable to us that we never deposit or cash.
We want to be women who live our lives based upon the amazing inheritance already given to us by a loving heavenly Father instead of someone standing there holding a check that never makes it to the bank. When we live in the light of the inheritance of our salvation, it protects our minds against the enemy’s tactics that cripple our way of thinking. When our way of thinking is crippled, we can start to feel very unworthy. But when we strap on our helmet of salvation, we have a change in our minds, the choices we make, and our lifestyle.
This is what sanctification is all about. The process of where we grow up in our faith as we are molded into the image of Jesus Christ through a transformed and renewed mind. The goal should always be more like Jesus and less like us.
We will discuss more of the benefits of our inheritance when we are together again. Until then, we must remember that the battle outcome is flipped against the enemy when we strap on our helmet of salvation. We are no longer walking around defeated. We are victorious!
Dear God,
Thank you for reminding me that I am a child of the almighty King and because You are my Father, you have given me an inheritance that I can’t even begin to wrap my head around. The salvation that you freely have given to me protects me against the enemy. Help me to strap on my helmet each day and live in the light of what you have given me. Because of you, I am an overcomer. Thank you for your gift of grace. I love you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
