Praying for Unity
“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.” 1 Corinthians 1:10 NIV
Do you ever have days when it seems like you and your husband just cannot get along? No matter how hard you try, the relationship feels like oil and water. I have been there more times than I care to say. I wish every day was sunshine and rainbows but then that wouldn’t be reality right?
One of the ways that the enemy tries to harm our marriage is through division. Ephesians 6:12 tells us that our struggle really isn’t with our husband but against Satan and all his dark forces in the spiritual realm. And friend, if he can get our attention away from that truth and focused on the flesh standing in front of us, then he already has a victory in the battle. It’s all about distraction and lies with the enemy so that he can render us useless for the kingdom of God.
The Bible urges us to be unified with others. In 1 Corinthians 1:10 it says, “I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”
So what can we do on the days when it’s difficult to be in harmony with our spouse?
We pray.
We choose to fight our battle spiritually. Is this easy? Nope – not at all. If you are anything like me, my flesh wants to get all tangled up in proving my point, and telling my side of things. My flesh wants to go to battle with the flesh but friend, that won’t do me or my husband a bit of good. All it will do is give the victory to the enemy.
Let’s choose to be prayer warriors today to have unity in our marriage. Let’s choose to fight our battles the correct way – on our knees – the real position for victory.
Father God,
Thank you for your word. Thank you for showing me just how hard Satan works at trying to divide relationships. Thank you for stepping in and rescuing my marriage when the enemy was doing his best to divide and conquer. It’s by your grace that we are where we are today. Help me Lord when I want to react in the flesh. Give us eyes to see the spiritual war raging for our marriage and give me discernment for what issues I need to bring to you in prayer. God, you are not a God of division but You are the God of Unity – keep our eyes locked on you – give us a unified mind and heart, one that is in sync with the other. You are so good. I praise you for being who you are. I love you, In Jesus Name, Amen.
