When You Don’t Feel Like Carrying the Load
“Carry one another’s burdens; in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 CSB
Hey friend!
I sat there in a frustrated, disgruntled mess. I had just hung up the phone with my husband and part of me was wishing that I had not of dialed his number in the first place. He was beyond ill and as I sat there afterward picking apart the conversation, it felt like he directed all his frustration toward me as if I was the actual reason he was having a bad day.
The more I stewed over our quick and to-the-point conversation, the more my temper flared. How in the world was I supposed to know what had happened in his day when he didn’t let me in on the details in the first place? And how was I supposed to know he wasn’t in the mood to talk? The more I sat in my emotions the more upset I became. Ever been there?
Galatians 6:2 tells us, “Carry one another’s burdens; in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Friend, I must confess that sometimes I don’t feel like carrying more burdens than my own. Especially when those burdens seem to come at me the wrong way. However, during these moments, it’s important for me to be more like Jesus and less like myself. Jesus was always compassionate towards others and was always ready to extend grace first and foremost. This is the example we must follow in order to fulfill the law of Christ. The law of Christ is love. God’s standard for love as it is spelled out in 1 Corinthians 13 and not our version of what love should look like.
The more I allowed God to transform my attitude toward my husband that day, the more I was able to extend compassion and love to my husband on a day when he really needed it the most. The enemy wanted me to focus more on how I felt about the situation which only led to disaster. God always has a better plan if we will take a moment to listen to Him first.
Dear God,
Thank you for being a God that I can pour out all my frustrations and emotions to. You are so loving and patient with me. Thank you for shifting my focus on what really matters. Help me to look to you first and not get tied up in my own thoughts and emotions. Help me to be willing to carry my husband’s burdens and to be a help to him. In Jesus name, Amen,

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
