When Your Weary Soul Is In Need
“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 CSB
Hey friend,
What struggles are you facing this Christmas? I must be honest. My heart is heavy and my soul is weary. With just days until Christmas day, I want to focus on what the season is all about, but my heart keeps drifting to other things. Does that ever happen to you? It’s like you want to look past your problems and only see the glory of the season but your problems just keep creeping back in.
With all the heaviness on my heart regarding my own grey skies, my heart is breaking for a friend of mine who just lost her husband. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around the depth of heartbreak sometimes and I’m sure that I’m probably not the only one who struggles with it. Heartbreak is just plain hard.
But I’m thankful that I have Jesus to lean on even when I don’t understand the heartbreak and even when my own grey skies have clouded my view. John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Jesus came into this world as a humble baby in a manger. The Word became flesh testifies of the incarnation – fully God – conceived by the Holy Spirit in Mary’s womb. The divine Son of God became a man – fully human but without sin – and dwelt among us. He has a fully divine nature and fully human nature. Our God experienced what it is like to be fully human – yet without sinning. Pain, grief, hardship, hunger, rejection, temptation, disappointment are things He experienced and felt. There isn’t anything we can go through that He can’t sympathize with us.
You may be struggling in your marriage or maybe your heart is heavy for a friend. Whatever it is that has your heart heavy friend – lay it down at His feet.
I love what the latter part of this verse says. Sweet friend, Jesus is full of grace and truth. Whatever lie the enemy is trying to sell you right now – Jesus has the truth. He is full of grace for your hurting heart.
Jesus dwelt with humanity down through the ages and He dwells with us now. He is truly Immanuel – God with us. Allow Him to carry your load.
Dear God,
Thank you for the gift of Jesus. That you for sending your Son for me. Thank you for being there when my heart is heavy, and I don’t understand. Thank you for carrying the load that I can’t carry. Help me to see past this broken world and only see you. Please be with all those who are heartbroken and hurting this Christmas. Surround them with your love and your peace. In Jesus Name. Amen.
