What Do You Need More Of?

“She opens her mouth with wisdom and in her tongue is the teaching of kindness.”

Proverbs 31:26 MEV

Hey friend,

Each year seems to be flying by faster than the last and this year has been no exception. 2021 has come and gone like a freight train and here we are staring at the end of it. During these end-of-the-year times, it’s important to have a moment of reflection to ponder where we’ve been spiritually and where we want to be.

And with this being the last post of 2021, I want to ask you a question that not only applies to your marriage but also applies to every area of your life - so here it goes,

As a wife, mother, daughter, sister, co-worker, friend, neighbor, or any other area you can think of:

What do you need more of?

If your brain works like mine, I’m sure it’s going in a million different directions right now with a million different answers. My #1 answer is time, or a clone of myself, or rest – oh, sweet rest :) and if I gave it another second to think about it - I could write out a list a mile long of things I feel that I need more of.

But during my time of reflection, God impressed upon my heart that the one thing I need more of is wisdom.

More wisdom in my marriage sure would help me navigate all those moments when I handle situations wrong. And I most definitely could use more wisdom as a mama and if I’m being honest, every area of my life is crippled without wisdom.

I’ve always been intimidated by the woman written about in Proverbs 31 but God is teaching me that I have much to learn from her. Proverbs 31:26 says, “She opens her mouth with wisdom and in her tongue is the teaching of kindness.”

In 1 Kings 3:5-14, we find a conversation between King Solomon and God. Solomon was handpicked by God to take over his father, King David’s kingdom, and was fairly young when he became king. During this conversation, God asked Solomon if he could ask God for anything at all, what would it be? Solomon’s response to God was for wisdom and understanding in ruling and reigning over God’s people.  Sweet friend, this really speaks to my heart.

God was basically giving Solomon a blank check – he could ask God for anything and Solomon chose wisdom. Solomon’s request pleased God so much that God not only blessed him with wisdom, making him the wisest man to ever live, but he also blessed him with what he didn’t ask for – riches and honor.

As you close out this year, I want to encourage you to spend some time praying and reflecting about what you could use more of in your life. What could you use to be a better wife to your husband? What do you need to be a better mama to your kids? What do you need more to help navigate through the highs and the lows of life?

Spend some time just being honest with yourself and with God allowing Him to reveal what you need the most. I promise He will be faithful! And when He reveals what you need the most – don’t be shy to ask Him for it.

Dear God,

Thank you for your word – just when I think I know what I need – you reveal what I need the most. I’m so grateful for the examples you have placed in your Word to help direct me when I need it the most. God, I need your wisdom to do this thing called life. I make too many messes apart from you. Help me lean on you more and not my own understanding. Direct my steps Lord and draw me closer to you. In Jesus name, Amen.
