The Key to having a Blessed Year

“He said, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.” Luke 11:28 CSB

Hey sweet mama!

Happy New Year! I hope you and your family had a wonderful time celebrating our King of Kings and Lord of Lords this past Christmas!

Do you typically make any New Year’s resolutions or set new goals for the upcoming year? I like to sit down and reflect on certain things that I would like to accomplish in the new year.  On my list, there are always the categories of eating healthier and finding some balance in my life – can I get a witness?! But during this time of reflection, we must not forget to take inventory of where we are spiritually in our relationship with God.

As Jesus was interacting with people while living out His ministry on Earth, a woman yelled out from the crowd. She began to talk about how blessed the mother of Jesus was for was carrying Him and nursing Him. However, Jesus was quick to correct her by saying in Luke 11:28, “He said, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.” Many people put the emphasis on the wrong thing then and sadly they still do today.

As you make your New Year’s resolutions and/or goals, I want to encourage you to make sure to keep the main thing-  the main thing. It’s not enough to just hear God’s word and then go on our merry little way. The key to having a blessed year is to hear God’s word and then do it. Plain and simple.

So, you might be thinking, “It really doesn’t feel that simple.” If you struggle with getting into God’s word, I want you to know that I get you. I have the same struggles. Life if busy. Like, crazy busy. However, I’ve noticed that life is crazier when I’m not in God’s word and it’s even crazier when I don’t apply His word to my situations. I’ll be honest with you though – sometimes we make things harder than it must be - at least I do.

We will always have some level of crazy because we live in a broken, sin-filled world. But if we will just take the path of doing it God’s way instead of our way, we will find that more things fall into place and become less crazy.

Dear friend, let’s be intentional in our walk with God this year. There are blessings waiting from our amazing Heavenly Father!

God,

I’m so thankful for your word and for your guidance. The enemy wants nothing more than to distract us from being women that follow hard after you. Help me as I live out the calling of being a wife and a mama – help me to be a woman that seeks you first, that not only hears your word but does it. You know what is best for me and I thank you for always leading me and guiding me. Help me to seek you more today than I did yesterday.  I love you, In Jesus Name, Amen.
