Walking with the King

“I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh.”

Galatians 5:16 CSB

Hey Mama,

Ever had a moment where you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God orchestrated a meeting between you and someone else? This person probably had no idea at the time that they were carrying out a God-ordained mission. They probably didn’t realize that God had lined up your paths at just the right time – all because God had a message for you and He chose to deliver it in His “amazing God kind of way” using this particular person.

I encountered one of these moments not too long ago. Honestly, God taught me several lessons from this encounter. Some have been small, however, most have been the kind that knocks your socks off and leaves you speechless.

I attended a women’s retreat last weekend with some ladies from our church. Our theme for the weekend was “Living the sweet life” and was centered on how sweet life is with Jesus. Our speaker, Karen, said several things during the weekend that really stopped me in my tracks. She talked about her own relationship with Jesus and different mountain tops and valley moments she has walked through on this earth.

Karen shared how when she was growing up, she would find her mom spending time with Jesus. Karen’s mom would journal her conversations and prayers that she had with God. Karen shared with us how her and her mom always had this thing that they would say to each other each day. As Karen left for school each day, her mom would say, “Walk with the King today”, to which Karen would reply, “and be a blessing.” Each day without fail these words would be exchanged between a mom and her daughter.

As Karen was sharing this story with our ladies group, those words, “Walk with the King today…” sank deep in my soul. “Walk with the King today…..” rang loud and clear as if God was speaking these words to my soul. It was clear that Karen’s mom played a vital role and was one of the reasons for Karen’s relationship with God. It impacted Karen to see her mom spend time with God. The time that Karen’s mom spent with her Savior clearly overflowed like a fountain to those in her household.

I’ll be honest friend. These five words, “Walk with the King today…” have knocked my socks off and left me speechless. I haven’t always walked with the King and I haven’t always taken the time to make sure that my kids know the importance of walking with the King. Our key verse says, “I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16. When we allow the Holy Spirit to lead us in every aspect of our day, the desires of the flesh become less appealing.

I sincerely want to make walking with the King my number one priority. And, if I am being real with myself – it needs to always be my number one priority. I want my walk with God to overflow like a mighty gushing river that permeates into every fiber of my children. I want their life to be impacted because they had a Mama that made her walk with Jesus a priority.

I firmly believe that God allowed mine and Karen’s path to cross to teach me some very important truths and I am so thankful that He did. He lovingly showed me just how important it is to “Walk with the King today” and how much it overflows down to my children and impacts their walk for eternity. He showed me how this walk must be a daily walk – each “today” is a new day and not like any of the other days. God sent me a reminder- my children are watching my walk  - what are they seeing in me? Are they seeing more of Jesus and less of me or are they seeing more of me and less of Jesus? Oh, I sincerely hope they see more of Jesus!

Sweet friend, I want to encourage you – Walk with the King today. Teach your children how to walk with their King. It will be the most important and rewarding thing you can teach them as well as yourself.

Heavenly Father,

Oh, sweet Jesus. How I want to walk with you. I need you more than I need air to breathe. Forgive me of all the times I try to walk this life without you. I sure have made a mess of it many a time. Oh, but you are so faithful. You continue to help me up and give me chance after chance to learn how to walk with you. Help me to teach my children just how important it is to walk with the King. Walking with you in this life is the only way to walk. In you is Joy everlasting. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Reflection:

Which do your children see on a consistent basis?

Do they see more of Jesus and less of you or More of You and less of Jesus?

If walking with the King is a struggle for you, spend some time talking to God about it and ask Him for His help – He is always faithful!
