When our Heart is Overwhelmed
“From the end of the earth I will cry to you: when my heart faints, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2 MEV
As I sat at my desk, my mind was flooded with anything and everything but the work that was right in front of me. Try as I might, I couldn’t concentrate on the spreadsheet of numbers staring back at me. It was a busy week at work, and honestly, I didn’t have time for my thoughts to be distracted. I tried all the tricks to regain my focus but even that was met with my mind going down a rabbit trail of anxious thoughts and defeating emotions. Do you ever struggle with this?
What is a mama to do when the weight of the world feels like it is crushing us into pieces? Our key verse gives us some insight. “From the end of the earth I will cry to you: when my heart faints, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2
Friend, Jesus never promised us that we will never encounter another storm after we trust in Him. The winds and the waves will blow as they try to take us down but the more we cry out to our heavenly Father for help, the more He promises to be faithful. He leads us to the rock and He steadies our feet, our soul, our emotions, our thoughts, and our mind.
The next verse (vs. 3) encourages my soul – do you see His promise? Verse 3 says, “For you have been a refuge for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.”
God doesn’t just answer our cry. He leads us and steadies our soul. He is our refuge – Our safety – Our provider.
We don’t have to fear the storms because He is the master of the storm. The winds and waves of life must obey His commands. Dear friend, the storm may continue to rage all around you but it doesn’t have to rage within you. Our amazing God may choose not to take away the storm but He does promise to be our refuge in the storm. Cry out to Him – He is always the answer when our hearts are overwhelmed.
Oh God,
You know how overwhelmed my soul feels. Thank you for your promise to never leave me or forsake me. Thank you for always being there when I need you. I praise you for the promise of shelter and safety that is only found in you. You are so good and you love us so much. Forgive me for all the times that I fail to cry out to you and try to handle things on my own. I need you Lord. In Jesus Name, Amen.
