The Day When There Is No Longer Any Curse

“And there will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will worship him.” Revelation 22:3 CSB

Hey friend!

During choir practice last week, we practiced the song “Hymn of Heaven” and I couldn’t stop the tears from flowing from my eyes. I’ve loved this song from the first time I heard it and have sung it many times in the car or at home without massive tears flowing. However, this time was different. This time was as if the words written on the page very quickly became the words flowing from my heart and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about Heaven since.

I have many favorite passages all throughout the Bible but the last few chapters in the book of Revelation are among my absolute favorites. While Revelation is a hard book to grasp and understand, we can’t miss the promise of hope that pours from its pages.

Revelation 22:3 says “And there will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will worship him.”

The curse of sin came on the scene after Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden against a holy God. It’s in Genesis 3 where we find the first conversation between the devil and humanity where Satan attacked God’s character and His word, and the first humans that God created fell for his schemes. And because Adam and Eve chose to disobey and go their own way, we have been feeling the effects of a broken, sin-soaked world ever since. The curse was first extended to the serpent (vs. 14-15), then to Eve (vs. 16), and finally to Adam (vs. 17-19) and would be passed down from generation to generation.

The truth of the matter is if the curse had been the end of the story, humanity would have deserved every bit of it. God is a holy and righteous God who can’t be in the presence of sin. He could’ve wiped out the entire human race at this point and never looked back. But He didn’t. God chose love. He chose redemption. He chose us. God made a way from that moment in the garden to restore humanity back to Him. Down through the pages of history, over and over, time and time again, God chose to extend mercy and grace to a people that would consistently break His heart.

Dear friend, the extent of God’s love absolutely leaves me speechless. He doesn’t have to love us, but He does. His love is faithful and relentless for all eternity.

If that was the end of the story, it would be enough. But there is coming a day when what was broken will finally be restored – and there will no longer be any curse. No more pain. No more sin. No more sadness. No more broken. Can you just imagine how wonderful it will be?

Not only will there no longer be any curse but we will be in the presence of the One who loves us and redeemed us back to Him. Revelation 22:3-5 says And there will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. Night will be no more; people will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, because the Lord God will give them light, and they will reign forever and ever.”

Sweet friend, this is our hope - what was broken once many years ago will finally be completely and totally restored. Revelation 22:6 tells us that these words are faithful and true. It’s not a fairy tale – This hope is real and it’s sure. And it’s just around the corner. Are you ready?

Dear God,

Thank you for loving us so much that you would make a way for there to be no more curses. Thank you for loving us enough to send Jesus to die and raise again to restore humanity back to you. Your love leaves me awestruck. I don’t understand why you love me so but I’m so glad you do. Thank you for the promise of complete and total restoration found in the pages of your Word. It encourages my heart and I look for the day when I get to fall at your feet and cry – Holy, Holy, Holy – You are holy. I love you, In Jesus Name, Amen.

Dig Deeper:

Then I heard a loud voice from the throne:  Look, God’s dwelling is with humanity, and he will live with them. They will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them and will be their God.  He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; grief, crying, and pain will be no more, because the previous things have passed away. Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words are faithful and true.” Revelation 21:3-5 CSB
