Oh, What Manner of Love
“Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?” Romans 8:35 CSB
Hey friend,
As I was scrolling through Facebook the other day, I ran across a quote from Fierce Marriage (one of the marriage blogs I follow) that was so simple yet so profound. It said, “Marriage is an ongoing & vivid illustration of what it costs to love an imperfect person unconditionally; just as Christ has loved us.”
What did the depth of love cost Christ? Plain and simple - it cost Him everything – it was sacrifice in its purest form. Truth be told, we didn’t and still don’t deserve His love. We had done nothing at all to earn it. Matter of fact, we had done everything and then some to send Him running away from the task at hand. We are as imperfect as it gets and yet He loved us so much to give His life for us.
Oh, what manner of love our amazing and holy God has for us! Not only did redeem us when He died on an old rugged cross, he also secured us for all eternity. Romans 8:25 says, “Who can separate us from the love of Christ? Can affliction or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?” Do you see it friend? There isn’t a trial that we can go through or a bad day on the horizon that can separate you and me from His love. Period.
So, when you have a day where it seems very difficult to demonstrate love to your spouse, think about Jesus and His love. He set the standard for us in the humblest of ways. He gave His all. And because He gave His all, we can do the same. It won’t be perfect but friend, He’s not looking for perfection. He just wants a willing heart – one that wants to be more like Jesus – loving an imperfect person unconditionally.
Jesus,
Thank you for loving us enough to die for us. Thank you for setting the example of what it looks like to love unconditionally. Help me to be more like you – loving my husband the way you love me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Truth to cling to:
You may run out of a lot of things in life, but you will never run out of God’s love. – Tony Evans
