Overwhelmed and Needing Peace

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.” John 14:27 CSB

I could feel my heart rate racing as I tried to focus on my mile-long to-do list, but it was no use. For the life of me, I couldn’t steady my mind on anything. There was so much to do and not enough hours in the day to get it done. I was usually more prepared by now. I’ve never been one to put up my Christmas decorations super early but here I was stressing out and trying to figure out how I’m going to get everything done before it was time to take it all down and pack it all back up until next Christmas season.

It was supposed to be the Season of Peace – a time to reflect on Jesus – the real reason for the season, but I was feeling anything but peace. Anxious thoughts were on the verge of pulling me under as I tried to catch my breath and steady my soul. Do you ever feel this way?

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when things aren’t going according to the blueprint laid out in our minds. Countless worries flood our hearts as we strive to create the perfect Christmas memories for our children, only to collapse in exhaustion from trying. These moments are anything BUT peaceful.

However, God never intended for us to keep striving to be point of exhaustion. He longs for us to look to Him to provide everything we need in every situation. Jesus tells us in John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.”

Jesus isn’t promising peace in the absence of storms. He’s talking about peace in the midst of tribulations and all the crazy days of everyday life. Jesus is reminding us that He isn’t the author of anxiety, worries, troubles, and fear – not at all. Jesus gives us peace when we rely on Him. His peace isn’t comparable to anything that the world could ever give. His peace is lasting and completely satisfying and there for the taking.

Sweet mama, you are doing an amazing job. Your kids don’t need everything just exactly perfect. They just need you. You are more than enough. Rest in His peace. It’s there waiting for you.

Heavenly Father,

I pray for the mama tonight who is exhausted and overwhelmed. I pray that you will replace those feelings with your unmatched, unfailing peace. Your peace can’t be matched with anything that the world could ever possibly give us. I pray that you will speak to her soul and remind her that in you she is more than enough. Fill her with a breath of fresh air and grant her strength to do all that you have called her to do in this season of her life. Thank you for leading me to this verse when my heart is overwhelmed and my soul is searching for peace. May you be glorified in everything that we do. I love you! In Jesus Name, Amen.
