Set Apart
“Sanctify them by the truth, your word is truth.” John 17:17 CSB
Hey friend,
Would you consider yourself sanctified? What exactly does that mean?
To be sanctified means to be set apart for God’s purposes. As believers, we must remember this world is not our home – we are just passing through. And on our way through this life, we are called to be ambassadors for Jesus Christ. We are called to share His love and the good news of the gospel to a world that needs to hear it.
But this process doesn’t happen overnight. We just don’t wake up with all the answers to every spiritual question. Sanctification is a process that will continue until we reach our heavenly home. In a nutshell, it’s the process of growing up in our faith. To grow up in our faith, we must internalize the eternal truth of God’s word.
Tony Evans describes it this way, “Think of the Word like food. You can chew on it all day, but unless you swallow it, you receive no health benefits from it. You internalize God’s Word not by merely hearing or reading it, but by trusting and obeying it. Then its work of spiritual transformation is activated in your life.”
This is why God points us to His Word in John 17:17, “Sanctify them by the truth, your word is truth.”
God’s Word must be our starting point and foundation. We can’t rely on our feelings or past experiences. The only way to true victory is to trust God’s Word over anything else. It will never steer us wrong.
Dear God,
Thank you that your Word is truth. It’s my compass and my foundation. Give me a hunger for your Word – help me to cling to it over my feelings. Thank you that your Word is trustworthy and true. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Reflection:
In what areas of your life are you trusting your feelings and/or your past experiences more than the truth of God’s word? What is one change you can make today to trust God more?
